News about the project.

This site will be offline for a major upgrade on Monday 13 September

This site will be offline for a major upgrade on Monday 13 September, from approximately 10am to 1pm Australian Eastern Standard Time. At this time, we will be upgrading to our new integrated search system. You will be able to see consolidated life histories of convicts drawn from a variety of sources.

Many of you have submitted additional information on convicts. We are waiting for an ethics application to be approved by the University of Melbourne.

Founders and Survivors Newsletter No. 5, August 2010

In this second issue of Chainletter for 2010 we bring good news about the start of research projects and the final policy on the public release of data submitted by donor historians and convict descendants. This issue also features news about our partnership with the Female Factory Research Group, and an article about the Queen's Orphan Schools.

There are two files available for download. FAS_Newsletter05_Aug2010_BIG.pdf is a larger file with a larger image resolution (higher quality images) while FAS_Newsletter05_Aug2010_Small.pdf is more suitable if you have a slow internet connection.

New volunteer group and discussion forums added

Dear volunteers,

At the Melbourne volunteers' workshop on 25 June, we identified a number of research tasks that volunteers can start working on. Some of these require physical access to sources, while others can be done online from any location. I have created a new group for coordinating Volunteers' projects, along with discussion forums for some of the tasks. If you are interested in helping with these or any other research tasks, please join the Volunteers' projects group at http://www.foundersandsurvivors.org/node/86860
